hw 5 discourse

to me the word discourse means a discussion in which power is involved and so is arguing. the discourse example i would use would be eating unhealthy foods. the discourse in that is that there are debates and arguments of what is good for you and what isnt. When i think about it though, anything can be fast food. Fast food is everything that we can buy within a few minutes and consume, it really doesnt matter what kind of food. Everything to me is fast food, it just depends on if the food is unhealthy or has high amounts if a certain thing i them that isnt healthy.I read the article about fostering fat. it says that we are basically too consumed with other obstacles in our lives, that we don't have the time to make ourselves healthier. I really think that this topic is pretty complicated. It goes deeper than just our health. getting healthy means that people take time out of their days, which means we do our own thing, and sort of diss "The Man" a.k.a the government. the government, or more likely the FDA doesnt really want you to be healthy, because then we dont consume in fast food corporations which means theuy lose money therefore concluding to the government losing money. Its all one chain reaction, but then again the government still has us hooked and so do all these other corprations with what they produce. Food is a poision leaving us vulnerable to diseases and an early death. We cannot live natural happy lives because there are all these outside forces pressuring us to live within the American norms that we all go by. food is the poision that has us all by the hand and its not letting go anytime soon.

hw 4 food and family

Food habits in my family have mainly not changed. The family members i speak to and socialize with all had one thing in common and that is that we were all mainly raised by my grandmother. In my grandmother's house, there are almost an unlimited amount of food options. From fruits and vegetables, to cereals and junk foods. all you have to do is open up that closet door and pick and choose. My family always jokes that her house is like a supermarket and if a world disaster were to happen we would all lock ourselves in her closet. MY grandfather goes food shopping every single day. there has not been a day where he doesn't have a supermarket bag in his hand. With all of this food surrounding everyone growing up in that house, obesity became a problem. My grandmother would feed us all unhealthy things. I remember at about the age of 3 i was drinking about 2 nutriment shakes a day. I would also eat from the time i woke up, to the time my mother came to pick me up. I got really heavy at a young age, and obviously i'm not so ripped up now either which means that my old eating habits are still present in my everyday life.

its not only me who is like this. everyone that was raised in that house, from me to my brothers, to my mom and aunts, all of them grew up unhealthy in that house. It was like a disease. If you didn't eat in that house, you were a bad child, now its if u don't eat in that house, you are a mean person. Things really don't change. Mostly everyone ho grew up in that house and is older now is overweight and maybe being at my grandmother's house made an impact on that. I mean its not all her fault, she showed us a path, but after that it was our decision to continue on that path. i wonder what would i be like if i grew up with only my mother caring for me. how different would i be?

i spoke to my mother about why our grandmother is like that. She told me that back in her days, there wasn't a lot of food. my grandmother grew up poor and her mother was very strict with the food she gave out and there was a lot of discipline in her household. i also feel like through the food my grandma gives us, it is her way of connecting with us. it gives us a reason to go over to her house, and it works.

The main reason why i think that the way i eat now compared to the way i ate before is so different is because now i really go for snacks instead of big meals. i mean it is sort of like the same thing in a way, but i rather eat snacks. nowadays, i get my own money and i usually go out on my own so i can eat whatever and whenever i want to, which now puts me in control of my own life and my choices.

when we went on our trip to union square i saw some very distinct differences when we went on our trip to union square i saw some very distinct differences between the mcdonalds workers and the street vendor workers. first of all i realized that the mcdonalds was very dull with no color. i noticed a few differences such as that the mcdoalnds workers were all dressed up and kind of happy. When i went to the outdoor market though i saw so many people happy. such as the kind man from the ronnybrook farm. he imports fresh milk from the cows on his own farm. he was very happy with his job saying, " i love nyc and the people here are so friendly and they are very supportive of my company. i produce fresh milk that i bring here about twice a week. plus the women here are beautiful!" the man was very happy to be working where he was. i feel like the beauty of working selling milk or veggies is that you dont have to be liable for a child dying of obesity from lettuce or like a tomatoe. They can feel good a bout what they are selling to the public which gives them a positive outlook.

As for the mcdonalds workers they were just all about the sell and had no sense of humor or wanted to talk to anyone. professionalism was and still is a big thing in mcdonalds. they barely wanted to answer questions and just wanted to get you some food which is all fake. i feel like the street vendors enjoy their job a tons more. I think that the workers at mcdonalds feel like criminals but they are trying to survive too. Working at a fast food place, you already know that you hare hurting people but you do it anyways because it pays the bills. i jus think that the street vendors are happy knowing that their food will serve a good purpose and maintain health while mcdonalds is all processed and it harms our bodies.

The one reason why i think that fast food is so successful is because people like the idea of eating a heavy rough meal for a lunch rater than something that is slowly cooked and prepared special. We like the idea of food on the go, and whay better way to do that then when you have a nice burger in your hand and a soda in the other. food companies made it so that they will build their companies in busy hectic areas because those are the areas that produce a ton of business and this is why fast food companie succeed. I think it also has to do with advertisements and jus all the money invested in a company. Also with all the options of fast food, it could never be eliminated from the world.

i normally visit the unhealthy place. i feel like i dont get judged when i walk into a mcdonalds but if i were to go to a store that sold only fruits and veggies and i walk out with a little bag of lettuce n onions, i would totally be stared at. It has something to do with the previous images that you portray. If those images change and you decide to be different, then you get judged. I think another reason i go to a mcdonalds because i always kno what i am getting. processed labratory meat and fries and i love it. i find it more appealing that if you are going to pay for food, you should get the item with the most calories and the cheapest price. it is inevitable to not run into a fast food places around us.

hw 2 food

food is how we live basically. i feel like what we all eat will kill us anyways so why not eat it. im not saying that we should eat burgers and fries and drink soda everyday, but we should eat what we want and enjoy whatever we want while we are alive. I dont like how everything I eat is so nasty though, in the way that it is made from dead cows and animals everywhere. It actually seems really nasty, but it intrigues my taste buds so i will consume it. Food is a business like every other it will always be consumed no matter how it is made. Food is irresisstable for all of us, some more than others though.

A food priority to me isn't only one thing, it varies on things such on price and convenience. i usually go for food that is cheap and fast to make. usually i eat what i do becuase of time restrictions. i feel like if we got more time to eat it would be beneficial because then that gives me more time to explore my options.

An ideal meal to me is always some seafood. I really like seafood and it is good especially when i go out to dinner with my arents because seafood tends to be expenive in certain places and i dont have to pay for it. i would really live off of clams, raw and breaded, as well as calamari and a bunch of other things along those lines. im really open with my eating options as im willing to try many new foods.
